Sponsored Artists Significant/Other present the first showing of their collaboration this Fall.
A map is a container for potential trajectories, a conglomeration of predetermined actions. A map is both a reminder of reality and a participant in reality.
By, To, With, For or Toward is a performed map, determined by a map. At the same time, it references an entirely real and uncontrollable reality. The friction between these forces creates and ongoing dialogue between the performance and the process of creation.
Movement, sound, electronics and found objects will be directly translated into a synchronized and highly engaging performance. The audience, as participants in the dialogue between performance, reality and process, will be at the center of all sensory activity.
Trained and active in the world of contemporary western art-music, both vocalist/composer, Bethany Younge, and cellist/performance artist, Lia Kohl seek to expand their traditional artistic roles by means of dismantling the binary and hyper-masculinized cycle of composer>score>performer into a process that is both more organic and specifically human. Kohl and Younge’s vision is an autobiographical one, where their artwork directly reflects the two’s relationship and where their self-referential performance represents their process. Both women are fascinated by the function and integration of the audience, the avowal of bodies, and the sound-worlds that emanate from pedestrian objects and their instruments. Learn more >
