Black Water

Seeking interviewees for Black Water: Polarity

Black Water: Polarity, a community based research and performance project that delves into the relationship between Blackness and water, is seeking collaborators (ages 18-100) to interview who identify along the African diaspora. The interview process will question and explore interviewees’ experiences with:

– Swimming / Access to swimming pools
– Any possible ancestral knowledge in regards to the Mid Atlantic Slave Trade
– Water contamination in drinking water

These interviews will be recorded and used for a performance, video and sound experience. Interviewees may also perform if interested. Please contact us at info@highconceptlabs.org for further information.

Interviews are conducted by Fall 2017 Sponsored Artist A.J. McClenon (ajmcclenon.com), a black Chicago based interdisciplinary artist from Washington, D.C. whose childhood home, situated in a predominantly black neighborhood, was affected by contaminated drinking water due to an undisclosed gas leak from the Chevron gas company. AJ does not know how to swim, continues to dream about water and is interested in your stories.
