At a time when the humanities in universities are said to be in crisis (enrollment is down, funding is down, everyone is reading on Kindles!), how are intellectuals attempting to “save” or “update” the humanities? What are the “new humanities” and how do they speak to the purpose of the “old” ones? Join editors and writers from The Point Magazine on Thursday night, June 5, for a panel discussion on these and related topics, based on our first-ever Point editorial on the New Humanities, published in the forthcoming Issue 8 (Summer 2014). Panelisits will include Robert Pippin, film critic Jonathan Rosenbaum and more.
The event will include time for audience questions and be followed by a reception including limited-edition cocktails courtesy of renowned Point mixologist Gregory Freeman. Copies of the new issue will be available for sale. For more on issue 8, check out the annotated table of contents on on The Point website.
We hope to see you there!
