HCL is proud to support ten artists and ensembles for two, four-month seasons each year, and our biannual SEASON SEND-OFF is your chance to enjoy the development of their work. The showcase evening highlights the growth and transformation of several current season’s Sponsored Artists, providing you with a glimpse into both their process and the outcome of their labors. HCL is also proud to honor the work of a past Sponsored Artist for their incredible achievements since leaving HCL.

Amanda VanValkenburg’s “Unnatural Disasters” turns 3D gaming into film with mood-driven vignettes exploring the anxiety of a contemporary world and the cathartic desire to see it destroyed. The expanding and contracting nature of capitalism creates a certain number of these abandoned buildings.

Emma Draves presents “Listen…” “My own explorations are carried out through the frame of femininity and parenthood but artistic collaborators will shift the work with narrative contributions. At the heart of this work is stability in risk, aggressive viscerality, rowdy corporeality, and rituals of comfort.”

Utilizing sounds recorded throughout Mana Contemporary Chicago’s 4th and 5th floors, legally blind musician, audio engineer, author, and disabilities advocate Andy Slater will lead audiences on a sound walk for his piece, Sound As Sight.

Runaways Lab Theatre presents excerpts from Joyelle McSweeney’s “badly-wired allegory” poetry-play, “Dead Youth, or, The Leaks.” Fresh off of two exhilarating performances, this is your last chance to witness this ambtious company at their best.
